One third of all high school and college students will have been in an abusive relationship by the time they graduate. Violent juvenile delinquents are four times more likely than other youths to come from homes in which their fathers beat their mothers. Between 55% and 65% of welfare recipients report that they have been physically abused by an intimate partner at some point in their lives. 33% of all young women will experience dating violence. 38% estimated young women between the ages of 14and 17 are victimized by date rape. Women ages 16 to 24 experience the highest per capita rates of intimate violence--nearly 20 per 1000 women. About one in three high school students have been or will be involved in an abusive relationship. A survey of 500 young women, ages 15 to 24, found that 60 percent were currently involved in an ongoing abusive relationship and all participants had experienced violence in a dating relationship. More than half young women raped (68 percent) knew their rapist either as a boyfriend, friend or casual acquaintance.
